Intervertebral Discectomy (info) A discectomy is a surgical procedure to remove an intevertebral disc that is putting pressure on a nerve leaving the spinal column. The procedure is most commonly performed on lumbar discs (located in the lower back) creating leg pain. However, it may also be used for cervical discs in the neck.
Kyphoplasty (info) - A procedure in which an acrylic cement is injected into a fractured and collapsed spinal bone in order to strengthen the bone and decrease pain from the fracture.
Laminectomy (info / video demo) - A surgical procedure to remove a portion of a vertebra, called the lamina, under which one finds the ruptured disc that is pushing on nerves and causing pain and dysfunction. The ruptured disc may be removed. In other instances, the lamina is removed because of pressure caused by bony spurs or other pathology.
Spinal Fusion (info) A surgical procedure to weld together bones of the spine (vertebrae).
